SFBD - 2D model

 
 

A 2D sediment transport model covering the Bay-Delta system. 2D flow runs were carried out by Delft3D FM while DELWAQ used D3D FM output to calculate sediment transport patterns offline

 

Model Description

This model was developed to determine turbidity levels in the complex-geometry delta of the San Francisco estuary using a process-based approach (Delft3D Flexible Mesh for flow dynamics in combination with DELWAQ for sediment dynamics). The model was calibrated against measured SSC levels for WY2011. The model may act as the base model for a chain of ecological models assessing the impact of climate change and management scenarios. Here we present a modeling approach that, with limited data, produces reliable predictions and can be useful for estuaries without a large amount of processed data
